Sagres Point (Fortaleza de Sagres) is built over 60 m high cliffs that extend until the impressing Cape Saint Vincent (Cabo de São Vicente) with 90 m high cliffs, which you can access by walking through an appealing coastal trail.

If you are on holidays on Sagres this route to visit Cape São Vicente is a must, given that it is the most southwest point in Europe. Here you will have the chance to witness an unforgettable Sunset.

This cape has always been related to different religions and ceremonies, but mostly to those related to the solar cycle. In order to Christianize those religions a pilgrimage to the tomb of Saint Vincent was promoted. He was a martyr from Valencia who was buried in this cape until Henry the Navigator (Don Afonso Henriques) moved his remains to Lisbon in 1173. The transportation was considered prodigious, and – as the folklore goes – ravens guided the vessel. At the end of the cape there is a wind-battered lighthouse and an old monastery, which houses the Lighthouse Museum (Museu dos Farois), where is explained the importance of Sagres during the Age of Discoveries.

But if you want something different, less crowed then go a little bit north and watch the most amazing Sunset; truly Magical! and Powerful!
